Indigenous farmersWe have no respect to our indigenous Ethiopian know howLet us consider the human factor. An indigenous Ethiopian farmer knows perfectly what type of cereal grows best in the soils of his surroundings. The thousands of years experience has made him excellent and can produce abundant variety of cereals in his area. Production of more than 20 different types of wheat within a radius of 5 kilometers is common in Ethiopia, particularly in the highlands regions. Why can't our farmer feed himself? What burdens is he facing? What are the bottlenecks that hinder him from using his land more effectively? Who is responsible for these problems? The answer to these and much more questions should come from all of us, Ethiopians. If we don't find correct answer to these then we have failed again. We will have to forget the thousand years of history because and we will stop to exist in the near future. Few years ago the were a couple op million endangered with famine. This time is 15 million people, next time it will be 30 million then 60 million.
