Ethiopia - ERA completes construction of 138m Birr worth roadsJune 20, 2009ENA - The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) said the construction of Kersaber-Debredamo and Kuwiha-Maimekden roads launched in Tigray State at a cost of 138 million Birr have been completed. ERA Adigrat District Manager , Engineer Nigussu Shibiru told ENA that Kersaber-Debredamo road covering 50 kms was constructed with an outlay of 108 million Birr earmarked by the government. An engineer with the road project, Tesfaye Endeshaw said the construction of the road has a vital importance to increase the flow of tourists to Debredamo monastery, one of the tourist attraction sites in the State. The road construction project, completed in three years time, has created job opportunities to more than 600 people, he said. Similarly, the construction of Kuwiha-Maimekden asphalt road launched at a cost of 30 million Birr has also been completed, according to the manager. The construction of the road, which is expected to alleviate traffic jam for the trucks that cross Mekelle has taken 18 months. About 300 people took part in the road construction.
