Professor Pankhurst is wrong about Yohanis IVBy Debretsion (Medrek)Professor Pankhurst is wrong! I`m not trying to prove him wrong for no reason; however, it is worth noting the following salient points . 1)Yohannes did not have any power to stop Napeir from entering Ethiopia . So to accuse him for allowing them is illogical at best and unPATRIOTIC at worst.(here I`m not implying the good professor is not a good Anglo-Ethiopian) 2)Yohannes was not the only one who got a few british guns as " gift". Hyping the value of a few british guns is demeanig , a subte Eurocentric propaganda vis-a-vis blacks . In fact it is very racist!!!! 3) Many of Yohannes` rivals, including Gobeze, had received such gifts, in much more bigger quantities . After all, The British troops had been evenly spreading their" gun-gifts" so as to prepare our country for a civil war, to make it ungovernable , unable to defend itself from external( british aggression)and an easy prey for their colonial venture; which was their main intention, beginning long before Tedros took power from Nigus Wuhbe of Tigray. 4) Gobeze succceeded Tedros as King Teklegeworgis , not Yohannes as most of you seem to think here 5) kingTeklegeworgis then inherited all Tedros` troops and Guns; commanders Alem and Gebre including that is. 6) Before Tedros fell out of british favor, he was fully armed by the Anglo Egyptians. Remember the ""Qwara Shifta who found huge stocks of Guns in a riverbank by Western Dembia". That enabled ""the Tedros ""to bring" Ali of Gonder" , down to his knees. Surpriseeeeeee, Eh?????? 7) So, besides all the huge Tedros` weapons' stocks( a 100% of which was donated by the British to Tedros over many years of their cozy relations), and the rest that he got from the " new arms gifts",which he received from the british by his his stealthy hands, Teklegeworgis-(an Agew and A tTgrayan by birth) -is considered "the lucky man who was fully armed by the British ." Note:Teklegeworgis was betraying Tedros, much longer before the Meqdela crisis, even though he was the second man in Tedros` regime. 9) So Teklegeworgis was ready to do anything for Napeir, if Napier wanted to colonize Ethiopia not withstanding. 10) However,Yohannes warned Napier not to delay his departure out of Ethiopia. 11) Therefore, were it not for Yohannes` stern warning from the outset, that he will unleash his partisan worriors to attack the British army`s long-drawn-out supply line and convoy if they decide to colonize central Ethiopia, they would have not left outta Meqdela at all. Were it not for Yohannes` Amhara and Agew would have been British colonies, Oromia would have been another country under European rule, Artera would never have been created or carved outta Tigray and only Tigray would have remained as Ethiopia ( Free country) Remember: the Brits were voraciously looting the country becuz Napier wanted to retaliate for not being able/allowed to colonize Ethiopia. 12)) Yohannes defeated King Teklegeworgis at the famous battle Adwa. In that very famous war, 60,000 Teklegeworgis` troops were defeated by ony 10,000 Yohannes` troops. 13) The Biritish were shocked to know their prime ally, Teklegeworgis , who was armed to the teeeeeeeeeeeeth by british guns, was, however, utterly shamed and irretrivably crushed by the young rebels, Yohannes and Alula. 14) Thus,Until the battle of Adwa, which happened a few years after the demise of Tedro, Teklegeworgis and his Tigrayan allies ruled all of North and central Ethiopia. 15) It was only after the Battle of Adwa , the first ever conventional warfare in Etrhiopia`s long history, where heavily armed 60,000 troops from all over the nation were defeated by another 10,000 heavily armed yohannes` rebel troops, that European colonizers started to view Ethiopia is a ""militarily fearsome nation"". 16) That was the only reason, why the british, immediately after Yohanens` victory over Teklegeworgis at Adwa, unleashed upon us their so-called "Ango-Egyptian forces", and invade Ethiopia up to the Mereb River. This happened long before Yohannes crowned himself at Axum. Infact, Yohannes crowned himself- before he barely started to unify the country , only because he knew he had to defend Ethiopia from the sneaky british colonizers first and foremost. 17) yohannes defeated the Anglo Egyptian colonizers at the battles of Gundet and Gurae. 1 The two major anti-AngloEgyptian wars happened much sooner before Yohannes extended his rule outside a small part of North Ethiopia. To those of you who dwell and insist on" Tedros this yohannes that" and blah blah, I`ve one big Merdo for you:" Tedros was a half-Qemant, on his mother`s side and one-half Wedi Tigray, on Hailu`s, his father`s side that is" ...Pesonally, I also happen to know Tedro`s paternal relatives who live at home and abroad. I also know some of them had been planning to write a book about the true Tedros` family tree. Stay tuned!!! Viva Tedros, Wedi Tigray!!! Caveat: since a Tigraway is no different from an Amhara and vice versa, we can simply say Tedy belongs to both peoples, as well as to the QemAnt Dembians. MOST OF ALL ,HE WAS THIOPIA`S KING!!
